Lizeth won 1st place at #CreateCOP27 with her project ‘Orilla Negra’ – a video and photographic offering that chronicles the impact of an oil spill that occurred off the coast of Lima on January 15th, 2022. Lizeth highlighted how the spill left “lasting marks on both the population and ecosystem”, documenting the pain felt caused by local fisherman, merchants and sailors as their livelihood was stripped from them. Culminating in imagery documenting a protest held by citizens on September 24th, 2022, Lizeth states her work is “not just a call for help, it’s a call for justice”.
