NightMare

BY FRANCESCO MIGLIACCIO

“NightMare” explores the dual nature of seaweed, symbolised by its Italian roots (‘mare’ meaning sea). The project delves into the benefits and drawbacks of this marine resource, from carbon absorption to environmental hazards. While seaweed is touted as “green gold,” it’s exponential growth due to warming seas, strong winds, and pollution poses challenges. The Sargassum bloom in the Caribbean, fuelled by human activities, exemplifies the scale of the issue. The UN calls for cautious optimism and more research on seaweed aquaculture’s potential risks. Exploitation of local communities, like women sea divers in India, adds a social dimension to the problem. “NightMare” encourages a conscious approach, emphasising the need to respect the Earth and its people amid the promise and perils of seaweed farming.

ABOUT FRANCESCO

Francesco Migliaccio is a Milan-based creative whose multidisciplinary practice bridges fashion, editorial work, and trend forecasting. Born in 1994 and raised in a small rural town nestled in a gulf of central Italy, Francesco continues to draw inspiration from the natural beauty and quietude of his childhood landscape—his enduring “safe place” for reflection and creative renewal.

His early exposure to the arts came through painting and the vibrant world of dance, guided by the influence of his mother, a Dance Artistic Director. These formative experiences instilled a lifelong sensitivity to movement, color, and atmosphere. After pursuing scientific studies, Francesco relocated to Milan to study Fashion and Trend Forecasting at Istituto Marangoni, where he learned to channel his deep visual intuition into structured, future-facing narratives.

Since then, he has worked across editorial and trend research, driven by a passion for storytelling, human connection, and continuous exploration. Whether through images, textures, or themes, Francesco builds thoughtful worlds that reflect both rigorous research and emotional depth—always in conversation with art, people, and the evolving culture around him.
