Malik believes that “a collective push is required to fix and slow down the damage that has been done to the climate.” He fears that “at the current rate of climate change, we will reverse the process of evolution and the world we will be left with will be our biggest nightmare.”
Escaping Inferno depicts a wildfire around the Yamuna Ghat in Delhi, where a small community resides in makeshift houses. Malik photographs their desperation as they try to save their only home. People regularly burn waste around the polluted Yamuna river, leading to fires that can spread rapidly.
