Hosiery
BY ANA TESS
Recycling is one way to support sustainable initiatives on the planet, though not all fabrics can be fully recycled. This makes repeated reuse of fabrics or garments essential. For this project, Ana chose Lycra, one of the most common yet delicate materials used in women’s apparel, particularly hosiery. Inspired by memories of their grandmother repurposing ripped tights for domestic needs, the project highlights these techniques while paying homage to artists such as Senga Nengudi, renowned for incorporating tights into her work.
To create the series, the artist sourced deadstock from brands like Falke and Wolford, as well as Lycra scraps from Fab Scraps, where hundreds of pieces often go unused. The work demonstrates the beauty and creative potential of this material, with each image exploring a distinct subject through inventive reuse.
